Hannah- “Beauty for Ashes”

Hannah- “Beauty for Ashes”

We would be reflecting on the story of Hannah.

There was a man named Elkanah, who had two wives. The first one was Hannah, whom he loved but she was barren because God closed her womb. And, his other wife’s name was Peninnah who bore 10 children. So, Peninnah taunted and irritated Hannah year after year for her bareness. Those days barren women were considered a disgrace to the family.

Trusting God No Matter What...Hannah's Story – Real Life %

Hannah had a loving husband as mentioned in 1 Samuel verse 8-  Her husband Elkanah would say to her, “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?” & she was favored & wealthy compared to others as mentioned in 1 Samuel 1:4-5 – Whenever the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters. But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved her, and the Lord had closed her womb.

But this one blessing in her that was not addressed was like a thorn in her life. When she was provoked again by her rivalry with Peninnah, she broke down and wept. Even though her loving husband tried to console her, she was weeping and went to a nearby church in deep anguish, Hannah prayed to the Lord-

10 In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. 11 And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

12 As she kept on praying to the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. 13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.”

15 “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”

17 Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”

18 She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

We see that this specific prayer of Hannah unlocked her breakthrough. She dedicates the blessing back to God. And, after this, she never cried because the Joy of the Lord was her strength. After some time Hannah was pregnant and gave birth to a son and she named him Samuel – meaning heard by God. Samuel was a kingmaker, curse breaker, and a great prophet. Samuel was a more blessed child than the 10 children of her rivalry.

Maybe sometimes in our life, God makes us wait like Hannah to prune us to receive the blessing or come to such a state like Hannah to say God I dedicate my blessing to you back.

WOMB REPRESENTATION:

A womb is a place for pro-creation, possibilities, opportunities, blessings, life-giving, glory, birthplace, God’s compassion, etc.

Fruitful Womb indicates God’s favor and compassion.

Barren Womb represents a test of faith or divine displeasure.

A womb has such powerful significance that the research has said if one womb in a family is healed then 3 generations before & after that person is healed. so 7 generations are healed.

Sometimes, God closes the womb for a period of time and opens it at the appointed time.

Peninnah’s in our life can be a physical competitor or someone with a soul tie – David & Jonathan had a healthy soul tie, unlike David & Saul. Emotional bonds are invisible bonds and they can be formed within your inner circle like parents, mentors, best buddies, etc. which can be so strong that can hinder you from actually doing God’s will and those invisible bonds can keep you numb and the devil uses people from the inner circle to deviate you from your call. so it becomes difficult to discern it. The fight is not against the closed ones but the spirit that operated them and we need to bind them in Jesus’ Name. Always remember. while you are single have God first and second your parents and next your buddies. When you are married, have God first, second your spouse, and next your parents and inner circle. Never mix the order due to affection, reverence, fear, respect, any emotions, etc.

Today, even you might be waiting for years for your breakthrough, but God can restore the years that the devil has eaten up in any area of your life. Dedicate something which is valuable or a blessing and see how God flips the story for His glory.

Hannah's Prayer for Son Samuel | Children's Bible Lessons

May God bring back blessings that were dead or hidden in Jesus’ Name & turn all your sorrows into joy. Amen.

Once, Hannah dedicated Samuel to God, She was blessed with 5 more children.
